Tracey-Ann begins her work with an abstract expressive style and then sub-consciously connecting with figures, animals, scenery and concepts to develop the message about our connection with life and our place in it.
A flash of yellow, a breath between,
The hunter moves, the hunted seen,
In restless strokes they twist and fly,
A dance of energy and fleeting sky.
In The Cat and the Canary, I let instinct and motion take over, painting that fleeting, electric moment of pursuit—the yellow cat at the centre alive with intent, and the canary just below, a flash of light and movement, always just out of reach. The forms blur and collide because nothing in that moment is still; it’s all tension, play, and survival woven together. For me, it’s not just about the chase, but about energy itself—how it moves, how it shifts, and how close it comes to becoming something else entirely, like the age old dance of a cat chasing a bird.
