Tracey-Ann Morris is a professionally trained artist born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. Starting painting at a young age, the passion continued through primary, secondary and tertiary, leading to a Bachelor of Arts at Edith Cowan University in secondary education – fine arts, graduating in 1992.
Tracey-Ann continued with a Master of Arts degree at Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra from 1996 to 2000 which led to works in digital arts and multimedia. While this new digital form led to a professional career in Information Technology, her passion for drawing remained, using her sketches as a basis for building digital worlds to explore in the cyberspace.
The move to living in the UK in 2001 and visiting the great European galleries brought her back to her previous love of oil painting and developed a series around popular Western Australian landscapes that were exhibited in London before returning to Perth in 2004.
Bright, textured colours come to mind when viewing the works of Tracey-Ann Morris. A rich palette of Western Australian colours are used for contemporary landscape and abstract works. Influenced by Abstract Expressionists, Tracey-Ann’s landscapes were of aerial views (the Satellite Series), providing an abstract view of the land below.
Art works from 2015 have become even more abstract, expressing the emotion of memories, movement of everyday events and the universal energy that surrounds us.
Tracey-Ann is wanting to paint a deeper connection with her surroundings. Her latest inspiration is the ‘Sensing Mind Series’ or the connecting mind, where the canvas and paint become the interface for connecting to memories, places, feelings and nature.
Tracey-Ann was the resident artist at Art Marx Gallery in Fremantle from 2020 – 2024. Publications: Art Edit Magazine, September 2019, Spring Edition for the Affordable Art Fair and The Other Art Fair, Melbourne.
