Tracey-Ann begins her work with an abstract expressive style and then sub-consciously connecting with figures, animals, scenery and concepts to develop the message about our connection with life and our place in it.

In Grrrrrr, I poured that feeling of being trapped—of wanting to move, to breathe, to be free—into the face. During lockdowns, everything felt compressed, like thoughts and emotions had nowhere to go, so they layered and collided. The marks are restless because that’s how it felt inside—frustration building, energy with no release. But there’s always that spark in me, that wildness—like a horse that wants to run or a bird ready to take flight. This piece holds that tension between being held back and knowing, deep down, that freedom is still there, waiting to break through.
