Tracey-Ann begins her work with an abstract expressive style and then sub-consciously connecting with figures, animals, scenery and concepts to develop the message about our connection with life and our place in it.

A face turns softly out of frame,

Against the lines that try to claim,

In shifting hues it slips away,

Refusing form, choosing its own way.

In Can’t Face the Structure, I was exploring that tension between freedom and the constraints we place on ourselves or feel imposed upon us. The face on the right emerges reluctantly, almost resisting clarity, as if turning away from something too rigid or defined, while other fragmented faces drift through the composition—echoes of identity caught between expression and expectation. I let the paint move instinctively—sweeping, colliding, refusing to settle into neat forms—because structure, in this moment, felt restrictive. The colours push against one another—warm against cool, light against shadow—mirroring that inner resistance. For me, this piece is about the discomfort of being confined, and the quiet, persistent pull to break away and remain fluid, undefined, and true.
